Morning In Hughestown

At aproximately 8:40 in the morning Hughestown fire was dispatched to Washington Terrace for a report of a car into a structure. PD was first arriving and stated that the car was on fire with extension to the residence. The 143 chief then requested the full structure box be dispatched. The 143 engine and the 126 engine used two 1.75 handlines to knock down the fire that extened into the porch roof. The 166 crew headed into the b side exposure to check for extension and also controlled utilities. The 166 rescue also handled the RIT assignment. After the fire was knocked down the rescue was sent back into exposure b to check for extension one last time, which turned up negative.

Structure Fire in Avoca

The rescue responded as part of a first alarm assignment to Grove street in Avoca for a reported structure fire. Avoca PD and the 112 chief were first arriving reporting smoke showing from the second floor. The 112 engine arrived and established the water supply. Crews stretched an 1.75" line upstairs and quickley extinguished a fire in the bathroom wall. Duryea ladder began overhaul and checking the attic for extension. The 166 rescue placed salvage covers over the owners belongings to prevent smoke or water damage. Germania engine grabbed a secondary water supply and stretched the backup line. The rescue was returned to service after an hour. More photos in the pictures section.

Technical Rescue

The rescue responded the Pittston By-Pass in the area of Galli's auto sales for a technical rescue assignment. Upon arrival county advised the rescue that two police officers and a suspect were stuck approximatley 40 feet in a whole with injuries. The rescue placed two rope lines in service, one for the rescuers to get up and down the mountain and the other for the stokes basket. Once the crew from the rescue reached the officers they advised that the officers were ok and the suspect is having trouble breathing and a possible broken ankle. The suspect was placed into the stokes and hoisted up the mountain into the hands of awaiting EMS. The officers were then assisted up the mountain. The rescue returned to service after 45 minutes.

Two Rollover Day

The rescue, engine, and brush responded to a mid afternoon tractor trailer rollover with reports of the driver confined in the vehicle. PD arrived first and reported that the driver has been self extricated. The rescue and engine arrived on scene to handle traffic and fluids down. Due to the amount of traffic Avoca and Hughestown fire police were requested and the brush truck was requested to respond to the scene with more oil dry. All units would remain on scene for 3 1/2 hours until the towing company got the truck upright. At 10:00 p.m. the rescue and engine responded to Armstrong road for a three car mva with rollover. The engine was first arriving to report all occupants out of the vehicles with minor injuries. The rescue arrived to control the fluids down while the engine stood by with an extinguisher at the car that rolled over due to gas leaking. All units would clear after 1 hour.

Early A.M. Fire in Jenkins

The rescue responded upon special request to Mitchell St. in Jenkins for a workin structure fire. PD was first arriving, reporting all occupants accounted for, and a working fire on scene. Jenkins engine would arrive and take the address, with Pittston City laying the supply line. The 166 crew was sent to apartment one division two to begin a secondary search and check for extension to apartment one. Both turned up negative. The crew was then sent to the fire apartment to do some overhaul and hit some hot spots. Rescue 112 would handle the RIT. Duryea Job

The rescue responded as part of a first alarm assignment to Railroad St. in Duryea for a reported commercial structure fire. Ambulance 526 was first arriving and reported smoke showing. The Duryea units arrived quickly with the 96 chief taking command. Engine 126 placed an "1.75" handline in service while ladder 96 searched for the seat of the fire. The 112 rescue was initially tasked with locating the basement, as it was believed to be a basement fire. Crews found that there was no basement and began to focus on the chimney area. The 166 rescue was sent into division one to relieve the 96 truck and to open up the walls and extinguish the remaining body of fire. The rescue returned to service after 1 hour.

Evening Vehicle Fire

The rescue responded to the top of mile hill at 1525 Suscon rd. for a working vehicle fire. Upon arrival the rescue placed a 1 3/4 line in service to extinguish the fire while another crew would begin ventilation and open the hood to complete extinguishment. The rescue was then advised by the home owner that the car was in the garage when it first started burning. A crew headed inside with the thermal imaging camera to check out the garge area for any heat or fire extension. Results turned up negative. The rescue would return to service after 45 minutes.

Bus Crash

The rescue responded into hughestown for a reported bus that hit a house with structural damage. The 143 chief and squad would arrive on scene first and begin to stabilize the bus. The rescue would arrive to finalize stabilization by putting two high lift jacks in service to support the bus and one screw jack to support the weight of the porch roof. The bus did not have any children on board luckily just the driver. It was believed that the bus stalled coming down the hill on Center st. and was unable to steer or use the brakes. Vehicle Fire

The rescue would repond to the Sunoco gas station on Rt 315 for a reported vehicle fire. Initial reports stated that the vehicle would be next to the gas pumps. Pittston City ems would happen to be in the area and quickly arrive on scene and advise the rescue of a working engine compartment fire and that the vehicle is away from the gas pumps. A crew from the rescue would stretch an 1 3/4 handline to extinguish the fire while another crew would begin ventilation by opening up doors and poppin the hood latch. The rescue would return to service after 45 minutes.

Another Job In Hughestown

The rescue would once again respond into Hughestown to 275 Parsonage street for a working structure fire. The 143 engine and chief would arrive and the engine would establish a water supply while the chief reported a 2 1/2 story with smoke and fire showing and to activate the SRN which would bring in the 166 rescue for RIT. Engines 143 and 126 would pull attack lines to start attacking the fire. Ladder 96 would then arrive to begin ventilation and also ladder the structure and pull out many pets. The 166 rescue would report to command and be sent to division two to get it opened up and find the remaing fire which was in the attic/roof area. A second alarm would be requested due to the lack of manpower on the first alarm. The rescue would be returned to service after two hours.

Machine Fire

Jenkins engine and brush would respond to the area of Center Point Boulevard for a report of a brush fire at approx 6:15 p.m.. Jenkins would arrive on the scene and state that they have a smoke condition but it is deeper into the woods and it is goin to be in Pittston Twp.. The 166 rescue and brush truck would respond to the area of Armstrong road by UPS where we were directly in line with the smoke. The brush truck would then be put into the woods to try to access the fire which they found they were unable to. A command post was then setup in front of Ups where they called for forestry to respond to the scene to find out if they knew how to reach the fire. Lima 10 and the 166 brush would drive through rugged terrain for 2 1/2 hours unable to find the path to the fire. Command then requested a supervisor from Mericle to respond to the scene. Once Mericle arrived we were then able to gain access to the fire off of powdermill road. The 166 brush and 148 brush would then begin to put water on the fire which for the most part was just smoldering. After the machine was cooled down all units would be realeased from the scene.

Hughestown Job

The rescue would respond to Hughes St. in Hughestown for a working structure fire. The 143 chief and engine would arrive first and report a 2 story, double block, vacant home with fire showing in the rear. The 143 and 126 engine companies would handle fire attack while ladder 96 would handle ventilation. The 166 rescue would arrive and be tasked with laddering the structure and controlling utilities. The rescue would then be sent inside with engine 93-3 to do some overhaul. Rescue 98 would be requested to handle RIT after 143 command sent the 166 rescue to work. The rescue would return to service after an hour and a half. More photos in the pictures section.

HOUSE EXPLOSION ON THE WEST SIDE

The rescue would be requested as part of a second alarm assignment into Exeter for a house explosion with reported entrapment. Early reports would state that the residents were evactuated from the structure with one person still missing. The explosion would spread debris within a 1 block radius in each direction. The missing victim would be located in the garage laying under debris. The rescue would be tasked with extricating the victim along with Wyoming FD. After extricating the victim the rescue would remain on scene for a half hour before being returned to service. Check the pictures section for more photos

The rescue and engine would first be dispatched to RT. 315 for a 2 car mva with injuries. The rescue would arrive first to find two patients with minor injuries. Those patients would refuse treatment. The rescue and engine would then disconnect the battery from the one vehicle. While the rescue and engine would still be on scene pittston city fire would get dispatched for a 2 car mva on the pittston by-pass in pittston twp.. The rescue would clear from 315 and go to the second mva to assist pittston city fire while the engine would remain on scene and wait for the wrecker. One patient would be transported from the second mva. Thanks for the help Pittston City.

AFTERNOON MVA

The rescue would respond to a two car mva (motor vehicle accident) at the corner of oak and ford st. with injuries. Upon arrival there were two patients with one being a child. The patients were then transported by ems to local hospitals. The rescue would then handle the fluids that were down and then return to service.

The rescue and engine would respond to 193 market st. for a reported structure fire. The rescue would arrive first to find a working attic fire and would setup a water supply. The 166 engine along with the 165 engine would strech an 1 3/4 line to the attic to start knocking the fire down. A crew from the 166 rescue and the 165 truck would then go to the roof and cut a whole in the c side wall of the attic for ventilation. FIRE ON THE 4TH

The rescue would respond into duryea for a reported structure fire. The 96 chief would arrive first to find a well invloved garage fire detached from the structure. The 126 engine would arrive next and quickly place two 2 1/2 inch attack lines in service. The 143 engine would pull another line to protect the second exposure building. The 166 rescue along with rescue 112 and ladder 96 would check for extension into the structure. The rescue would return to service after 45 minutes.

MID-DAY CAR FIRE

The rescue and engine would respond to the parking lot of Joe's Kwik Mart for a reported working vehicle fire. Upon arrival the rescue reported a working engine compartment fire. The engine would use an 1 3/4 line to extinguish the fire while the rescue would work on opening the hood. The rescue and engine would return to service after 45 minutes.

MOTORCYCLE MVA

The rescue would hit the road early for a pickup truck vs. motorcycle with two injuries. The rescue would arrive first to find two patients laying in the roadway. The rescue would assist ems with patient packaging of the two patients. The rescue would then return to service after the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

WORKING FIRE IN FIRST DUE

The 166 engine and rescue would respond to 311 tedrick for a working structure fire. Early reports stated a dryer fire. Upon Arrival fire extended to first and second floor of the double block home. Engine 166 would pull an 1 3/4 attack line while the rescue started some quick ventilation for the engine crew. The 112 rescue would arrive and start a search of the first and second floor of the fire side. Pittston City and Laflin would check for extension to the other home which was negative. The 126 engine was then brought in to do some overhaul. West Pittston would handle the RIT assignment. .

AVOCA JOB

The rescue and engine would respond to plane st. in avoca for a working structure fire. Engine 112 would arrive first pulling attack 1 to the rear. The 126 engine would then arrive and pull attack 2 also to the rear. Ladder 96 and rescue 112 would have the initial search ops. Rescue 166 would team up with rescue 112 in the rear to pull some walls and open the building up. Orders were then givin from command to evacuate the building once the fire went through the roof. It then became a defensive operation. After the fire was knocked down once again crews would head back inside to hit some hot spots.

AFTERNOON RV FIRE

The rescue and engine would respond to I-81 for a reported rv fire. Upon arrival rescue reported working rv fire and requested that 81 north be shut down.The 112 rescue and engine would be requested to the scene for manpower and laflin engine would also be requested for a water supply. Units would operate for a little over an hour before being released.
