Burn Session At LCCC

Over this past weekend members headed down to LCCC with Duryea Fire for a structural burn session. Members got to brush up on the skills of stretching lines, and performing searches. Some new knowledge was gained as always you can never have enough training. We would like to thank Duryea Fire for having us.

Some members spent Friday night and all day Saturday participating in a machinery rescue program put on by some great instructors from Task Force 1, Inc. The class was hosted by station 98. Members learned different lifting and extrication techniques and were tasked with challenging scenarios.

Members spent this past weekend at the Kmart on the Pittston By-pass informing kids and parents about fire safety. Members had handouts for the kids, demonstrated what to do in the event of a fire with the use of the smoke house, and on Saturday demonstrated a vehicle extrication.

This past week members participated in the 4th annual Avoca Fire Dept. Softball Tournament. Member started the tournament out strong by defeating Duryea Fire and Avoca fire to make it to the championship game.

Engine 2 and Rescue 1 headed to the Pittston Area High School to assist Laflin Fire with the annual Prom Promise. The prom promise is an event that is put together every year by a senior student and the school to show kids the dangers of drinking and driving.

This past weekend 6 members headed down to the Muncy training facility by Williamsport. Members attended vehicle fires and special vehicle rescue. It was another great year with plenty of knowledge gained.

This past weekend members attended a man in machine class at Station 112. Members got the opportunity to use some new equipment such as a band saw and cutting torches. Knowledge was also gained on various types of incidents from impalements to a person having a ring stuck on their finger.

Today members spent the time to place our new SCOTT SCBA on Engine 2. This completes our SCBA conversion from MSA to SCOTT. These air packs are equipped with pac tracker technology which plays a big role in finding a down firefighter in the event of an Emergency.

As we enter into the fall season, the PTVFD softball team had very successful summer. Taking first place in both the Avoca and Duryea Fire Dept. tournaments. The members played hard all summer. These tournaments are good time to get together with our brothers and play a little ball.

It was a good week of training at the 166 house. Members started this past thursday night with our regurlarly scheduled training with throwing ladders, hydrant hookup, SCBA, and various other tool training.

Over the past two weeks members spent some time at station 143 for a basic ropes and rigging program. Members learned about various different types of mechanical advantage systems, as well as setting up anchors and multiple different knots and their uses.

Members had busy weekend of training this past week. Members attend a confined space class hosted by the Avoca Fire Dept. During this course members learned about all the danger of a confined space rescue, and also learned about the many different types of tools involved.

Members recently completed a BVR OPS program hosted by the Kingston Twp. Fire Dept. In this program members learned about many different tools, techniques, and strategies involved in the vehicle rescue field.

Some members headed down to LCCC PSTI yesterday for a basement burn class. Members spent the day stretching lines and performing searches of the basement and division 1. Members had an opportunity to feel the heat amongst other dangers of fighting a fire in the basement.

The past few days members have spent their time packing hose and moving equipment around to get the new engine 2 ready for service. This engine will be in service at HQ and the current engine 2 will become engine 3.
